The point of me

Today, it almost felt as if there is a point to me. My sister-in-law professed her enchantment with a moon necklace that I had made for her, using some rather detailed wire-wrapping technique in silver-plated copper. But on the other hand, one can never know if people are in fact speaking the truth. I almost always assume that they are lying, since the human kind have a tendency to do just that. That’s something we have in common with the chimpanzees.

Other animals are a different deal altogether, which brings me to the real reason that I sensed some kind of a point today: I decided to go running 10 K in the criminally hot weather, and on the three occasions when my scalp was prickling so intensely that I had to slow down to a walk, this coincided with my becoming aware of animal life in need of assistance. The first time, it concerned an exhausted bumblebee which needed to be lifted off the tarmac and onto a flower – and I almost kissed the furry little darling when it immediately started drinking the flower’s nectar; the second time it was a dor beetle on its back, its little legs flailing, and which looked rather pleased when it was helped back on its feet again; the third time it was a poorly-looking magpie sitting in the grass next to the footpath, nervously close to passing dogs and potentially shitty humans. I hurried home and returned to the patient with water and some nuts for sustenance, and was happy to see that the sweet creature managed to move a few yards into the woods. I am still thinking about the little bird, hoping that it either recovers or meets a swift death.

That’s the best one can hope for all of us, in face of the truly evil people who are currently ruling the world.
